Indonesia Rehosts Int'l Classic Car Exhibition

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia will again host the biggest international classic car exhibition in Southeast Asia in December, a spokesman for the event’s organizers said.

The fifth Otoblitz International Classic Car Show (OICCS) 2011 event will be staged at the JI-Expo building in Kemayoran, Jakarta, on December 16-18 2011, OICCS organizing committee chairman Azman Osman said here Thursday.

"Our target is to revive the hobby of classic car collecting in Indonesia because Indonesian classic cars are still under publicized. Indonesian collectors are still reluctant to display their classic cars," he said.

"Through this exhibition, we want to encourage them to share their experiences and showcase what they have in their collections," Azman said.

OICCS 2011 would show the latest collections of Vintage cars, Sport, Youngtimer, Retro, Modern Classic, Classic Sports owned by collectors in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. The exhibition would be held in conjunction with the commemoration of Mercedes Benz’s 125th and Chevrolet’s 100th anniversaries.

As the "Stars of the Show", OICCS would feature rare classic cars such as Pontiac Trans Am (1969), Ford Mustang Pony (1965) Porsche Carrera RS (1971), and three series of Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Cabriolet, 300D Adenauer (1962), and 190 SL (1956).

To mark its 125th anniversary, Mercedes-Benz would also be displaying some of their best liked Three Wheeler MB, 220B Convertible, 190 SL, W115, and the latest type 6.3 MB AMG Gullwing (2011). As in previous events, the best classic cars were also to be grouped according to the countries where they were made such as the American Classic All Stars (USA), Euro Classic All Stars (Europe) and Japanese Samurai (Japan).

"But maybe many people would also like to see classic Porsches," said Azman. Therefore, some Porche types such as Porsche 365 Cabrio, 911 Carrera and 930 Gulf Version would also be exhibited at OICCS 2011.

Besides promoting classic cars in Indonesia, 2011 OICCS also provides an opportunity for young people to learn about classic cars in the "Classic for Kids" session where school students could learn about the histories of the classic cars.

OICCS 2011 would also help visitors seeking spare parts or accessories for their classic cars to obtain what they needed. The exhibition will also be supported by a parade of classic motorcycles by the Jakarta Chapter Brotherhood Motorcycle Club with a variety of brands from various countries.
